How Homeopathy Can Help Boost EMDR Outcomes

Updated: Nov 17, 2023

Trauma, of all types, can become stored in the body. This can shape our beliefs and perceptions of the world. When trauma becomes stuck in the body, we may often experience mental discomfort such as, anxiety and depression. EMDR therapy works beautifully to help one process and release this trauma. It is an effective tool used to conduct one’s own healing journey. “But, how long does it take?” is a question I am often asked. If only our healing journeys came with clear instructions and a blatant start/end date. Wouldn’t that make life so much easier? Unfortunately, that isn’t how it works. Our healing journeys are not always a smooth and linear process. There may be many bumps, twists, and turns along the way. Roadblocks and detours may occur, and certain experiences may take longer to process. Homeopathic medicine can help to accelerate this process. Although, homeopathy cannot, “do the work,” for you, it can help ease the pain associated with the process and transition of trauma work. Metaphorically speaking, instead of driving down a dirt road, ridden with potholes, with homeopathy, we can cruise down a smoothly, paved road. This allows the journey to become a more smooth and comfortable process.

Homeopathic medicine is a safe and non-addictive way to address mental health conditions. It can be used alone or in conjunction with psychiatric medications. For those who are already established on medications, homeopathy can help to enhance the effectiveness and maintain one’s dosage at the lowest, effective, dose possible. Depending upon the severity of one’s case, they may even be able to wean off certain medications, altogether. Homeopathy is so safe and gentle, in that, we can even prescribe it for children and women who are pregnant. In traditional medicine, we are used to having one type of medication to treat a specific illness. For example, we often use SSRI’s (aka anti-depressants) to address depression. However, with homeopathic medicine, there are actually hundreds of remedies to choose from. It is different from traditional medicine in that the prescription of a remedy is based upon the “picture” of the illness, instead of the actual illness, itself. Let’s take anxiety, for example. We could have fifty people who are all diagnosed with a condition called, generalized anxiety disorder, but each and every person, may present that anxiety differently. For example, when one person experiences anxiety, they may become cold, shy, and tearful. Whereas, when another individual has anxiety, they may become hot, irritable, and fixate over intrusive thoughts. Although both people were diagnosed with the same condition, they present it very differently. Homeopathy accounts for all of the symptoms presented in order to provide an opportunity for healing and wellness to occur.

As a naturopathic doctor, I am passionate about using homeopathic medicine for mental health, as I often witness, such beautiful and profound results. Many of those who come to me have been failed by the conventional medical system. Tossed from doctor to doctor, one does not often feel heard. They are often surprised to discover that our first appointment together is 90 minutes long! Many of these patients have had medications prescribed that lead to an unending snowball-like effect, in managing all of the side effects created. Fortunately, homeopathic medicine is side effect free and works to stimulate the body’s own innate ability to heal itself. It allows own to regain balance and return back to their original state of health.
